Logos Books, 513 Second Street, will  celebrate its second year in business at an in-store open house, Monday, February 20th from 2 to 6 pm.    Come join us for cake, lemonade and a stroll around our second  hand books store.This day culminates a week long sale with all  books  sold at a 25% discount.  We look forward to celebrating with you!

Advanced non-native speakers of Spanish gather every third Monday of the month from 7:30 to 8:30 pm at Logos Books 513 Second Street for lively discussions on a topic  in Spanish.

This coming meeting we will learn a traditional song from Venezuela, continue a discussion on intellectual property rights on the internet, and compare and contrast American and Spanish proverbs.

Allegory of Pre-owned Books Sales by Jeff Granett

Jeff Granett unveiled his tribute to Logos Books at our Second Annual HeArt About last Friday.  Here it is -but really, you must come in and see it to fully appreciate the humor.  As for the rest of the evening, The Tea List out did itself once again with samples of herbal and fruity black tea, as well as the lovely almond cake and mille feuilles bites that were sampled and savored by so many of our visitors.

Photos included here are of Jeff Granett, lino block artist, speaking with visitors, and owner, Peter Linz,  and volunteer,  Kelley Gove , ringing up sales as we kick off our Second Anniversary 25% off sale that runs from February 10th through February 20th.  Looking forward to seeing you at Logos Books this coming week!

The HeArt about returns to Logos Books, 513 Second Street, on the Second Friday, February 10th from 6 to 8:30 pm.  Lino block artist, Jeff Granett, continues to exhibit his work and will unveil a special work to commemorate Logos’ second year in Davis.  This event also kicks off our week long 25% off sale on all books in the store. Local poet, Patricia Killelea, had a warm reception and attentive audience last night when she read from her book of poems, Other Suns.  Friends, family, students, colleagues and poetry lovers gathered for the reading, and enjoyed tea, cookies and (we have it on good authority) a few pints  at the local pub afterwards.  Now who says that poetry is stuffy?

The Logos Books poetry series for 2011-12 continues when local poets, Trina Drotar and Sandy Thomas, read from their work on Thursday, March 8th from 7:30 – 9:00 pm.

Then, join us at our next literary event,  Tuesday, March 27th from 7:30-9:00 pm, when  long-time character actor Clive Rosengren, (Cheers, Seinfeld, Ed Wood),  reads from  his  novel Murder Unscripted, a lively  Hollywood detective mystery.

Logos Books poetry series for 2011-12 continues when local poet, Patricia Killelea, reads from her work on Thursday, January 26th from 7:30 – 9:00 pm.

Patricia Killelea is the author of the poetry collection Other Suns, which is now available from Swan Scythe Press (2011). She is currently a doctoral student in the Native American Studies department at the University of California at Davis, and she holds an M.A. in English & Creative Writing, also from UC Davis. Originally from the Bay Area, CA, her poems have appeared in Gigantic Magazine, The Tule Review, SuisunValley Review, and Poetry Now. In November 2011, she was a part of Sacramento Poetry Center’s CONFLUENCE Poetry Tour. She has taught the Introduction to Native American Literature course at UCD since Fall ’09.

Following the poetry reading, there will be light refreshment and an opportunity to purchase chap books and have them signed by Ms. Killelea.  All are welcome!
