Quinton Duval Poetry Series continues with Sandy Thomas and Martha-Ann Blackman, Thursday, March 26th

redwingPoets Sandra Thomas and Martha-Ann Blackman will read Thursday, March 26th at Logos Books, 513 Second Street as part of the ongoing Quinton Duval Poetry Series, now in its 5th year at Logos Books. Reading begins at 7:30pm and runs till 9pm.

Sandy Thomas is a literary and visual artist. She is the author of three chapbooks including The Gypsy Caravan in the Black Forest, (Vammon Press, 2013), a dual language edition in English/German. Her works have appeared in on-line and print journals including Ophidian-One, Poetry Now, and Late Peaches: Poems by Sacramento Poets.

Her photography is held in several collections and has been exhibited at Elliott Fouts Gallery, Sacramento Fine Arts Center and Vox Sacramento. Recent exhibits include the 2014 Sable & Quill, 2012 Sacramento Writer’s Brush and the Vox’s “What It Means to Be Human” invitationals.

She received her M.S., emphasis in self-defense, from California State University, Sacramento where she studied under Sensei Midge Marino. She teaches Women’s Self-Defense workshops throughout the Sacramento region.  Visit http://www.pw.org/content/sandy_Thomas

Martha Ann Blackman has co-edited a number of poetry collections, including Hard Pressed, and Watching From The Sky, the latter co-edited and published with Ann Menebroker to benefitGrandmother’s for Peace.  Her poetry chapbook, The Caring Tree, was published by Rattlesnake Press.

Martha Ann’s poetry has been featured in Rattlesnake Review, Poetry Now, The Sacramento Anthology, 100 Poems, West Conscious Review, James Mechem’s Out of Sight 40, Tule Review, Because People Matter, 24th Street Irregular Press/Poems-For-All, on the blog, Medusa’s Kitchen, and in numerous other publications.

She participated in the “Poets in the Schools” program through the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission and has performed poetry and song in Earth Day and Friends of the River events.  She has performed on KVMR Radio in Nevada City and KVIE-6 and KXTV-10 in Sacramento.  She was also a member of the band, Space Debris.

 Martha Ann has been a featured poet at The Book Collector, The Sacramento Poetry Center, Luna’s Café, numerous Whole Earth Festivals, Giavonni’s, and The Nevada County Poetry Series, and theCenter for Contemporary Art.

 She is currently collaborating with artist, Laura Jane Coats, on The Memory Within, a poem/book that will be published in a hand-set, letter-press format.
